The BiliLumen Phototherapy Light is a compact, double-sided phototherapy lamp for the treatment of jaundice in new-born babies.

Jaundice is a condition characterised by yellowing of the skin and eyes due to elevated levels of bilirubin, a pigment produced when red blood cells break down, which can be a temporary occurence, however, if left untreated, it can lead to more severe conditions. Light therapy is a common treatment method, in which blue light is shone onto the baby, and absorbed into the bloodstream, breaking down the bilirubin into a soluble form which the baby can excrete. However, a combination of poor product options which facilitate improper use means babies do not always recieve adequate treatment.

The BiliLumen differentiates itself from conventional treatment devices, by being a fully self-contained phototherapy solution; it is able to deliver double-sided treatment, reducing treatment time by 60%. It includes an integrated timer, and dual brightness options to treat both mild and severe jaundice. It’s compact form means it can be moved around hospitals with ease, bringing the treatment to the mother and child, promoting bonding time in the early days following the birth.

It’s plug-and-play design, means that there is no need to calibrate the light brightness before every use, eliminating human error and ensuring accurate treatment every time.
